Veterans Receive Priority of Service

The Jefferson County Workforce Center is charged with ensuring that all eligible veterans are provided with maximum employment and training opportunities, with priority given to disabled veterans and veterans of the Vietnam-era, by giving them preference over non-veterans in the provision of services available.

Services are those activities or efforts including but not limited to: registration, counseling, referral to supportive services, referral to job openings, job development, etc., which are directed to help applicants find jobs or training. When making job referrals, our employment specialists observe the following priority:

1. Special disabled veterans (30% or more service-connected disability)

2. Disabled veterans other than special disabled veterans

3. All other veterans and eligible persons

4. Non-veterans

DVOP/LVER Programs

The U.S. Department of Labor offers employment and training services to eligible veterans through two principle programs: Disabled Veterans' Outreach Program (DVOP), and Local Veterans' Employment Representative (LVER) Program.

The DVOP specialists develop job training opportunities for veterans, with special emphasis on veterans with service connected disabilities. They provide direct service to veterans enabling them to be competitive in the labor market, working with employers, veterans' organizations, the Department of Veterans Affairs and Defense, and community-based organizations to link veterans with appropriate jobs and training opportunities.

The LVER specialists provide assistance to veterans by supervising the provision of all services to veterans furnished by employment service employees, including counseling, testing, and identifying training and employment opportunities. They monitor job listings from federal contractors to see that eligible veterans get priority in referrals to these jobs. LVER specialists work with community leaders, employers, unions, training programs, and veterans' service organizations to make sure eligible veterans get the services to which they are entitled.
