Job Club for Boomers: A Jefferson County Workforce Center Networking Opportunity

Ready to get that network of yours expanded? Want a great way to learn and meet people at the same time? We have just the ticket – the Job Club for Boomers at the Jefferson County Workforce Center. Since its inception in October 2007, the Job Club for Boomers has been a great source of information and networking contacts.

Members of the Job Club for Boomers became part of the club by taking our Job Search for Boomers class (go to www.jeffcoworkforce.org to see our April schedule). From there, they were able to sign up for the weekly meetings. To date, the club has approximately 10 members, and continues to grow as new members join each month.

Each meeting has a special focus and generally has a guest speaker. During 2007, speakers from Volt Temporary Services, Aerotek, and Jefferson County Human Resources were on hand to provide information and insight on job search and, in some cases, job opportunities. Club members also enjoyed an informative session on generations in the workplace where the attributes of different generations (baby boomers, millennials, etc.) were discussed in terms of the workplace. Meetings in 2008 have focused on producing your own business cards among other job search tools and methods.

April 2008 finds the club focused on an important event for boomer job seekers – the BOOM-A-FAIR (the 2nd Annual Job Fair for Boomers) on April 22. Both of April’s meetings will include a special seminar on “How to Attend a Job Fair” as well as focusing on resumes and researching the businesses that will be at the BOOM-A-FAIR. There will be a meeting on Thursday, April 3 from 1 – 3 p.m. The second meeting is schedule for Thursday, April 17 from 1 – 3 p.m.
