Process Technology involves planning, analyzing, and controlling the production of products from the acquisition of raw materials through the production and distribution of products to customers. As old as manufacturing itself, process technology is how one looks at the overall picture and how each component fits in. Unlike your Uncle Fred’s factory job, process tech doesn’t mean working on an assembly line. Process technicians work in industries as diverse as power generation, bio-fuels, oil and gas refining, food and beverage production, water reclamation and more. Everything you see in your local mega-mart or grocery store is a product of process tech - and someone who controls that process.
The one thing that most people don’t think about when they hear “process tech” is jobs. But nothing could be further from the truth. There is a high demand for workers in companies big and small. Retirement of the ‘Baby Boomers” is leaving companies such as Coors scrambling to find a qualified workforce, and the emerging bio-fuel and “green” energy sectors can’t get off the ground without someone to help develop their processes. Both factors are a huge advantage to job seekers looking for a stable, well-paying career in a challenging environment.
